Joachim (Anhalt)
Joachim I of Anhalt (born August 7, 1509 , † December 6, 1561 in Dessau ) was a Prince of Anhalt-Dessau .
Life
Joachim was the youngest son of Prince Ernst von Anhalt-Zerbst (1451–1516) from his marriage to Margarethe (1473–1530), daughter of Duke Heinrich I of Münsterberg . After his university education, Joachim lived primarily at the court of the Saxon Duke George the Bearded , who could not prevent Joachim from converting to the Lutheran doctrine .
At first Joachim ruled together with his older brothers Johann II and Georg III. , but in 1546 they divided the country, with Joachim receiving Dessau, Lips , Jeßnitz , Wörlitz and Raguhn . Joachim developed a brisk construction activity and issued police regulations. In Dessau he renewed the tower of the Marienkirche in 1554 . Joachim was considered a loner, but also a close friend of Luther , Melanchton and Joachim Camerarius . Joachim died unmarried and childless, his land fell to the sons of his brother Johann.
