Joachim Betz (political scientist)

Joachim Betz ( listen ? / I ; * 1946 ) is a German political scientist . He is a professor at the University of Hamburg and researches at the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA Institute) in Hamburg . Audio file / audio sample

Life

Betz studied at the Universities of Erlangen , Tübingen and Montpellier political science on teaching for high schools and graduated with the state exam from. In 1973 and 1974 he completed his legal clerkship . From 1974 to 1977 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Tübingen, where he was a research assistant from 1977 to 1980 . With the dissertation The Internationalization of Development Aid , he received his doctorate there in 1977 . In 1980 he was appointed to the University of Hamburg and since 1981 he has also been a research assistant at the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA), also in Hamburg. He has been an associate there since 2012 .

Research priorities

Betz's research focuses on South Asia , development finance , debt issues , the situation of raw materials in Asia and the North-South negotiations. He is considered an expert on India .

Memberships

He is a member of the Working Group for Peace and Conflict Research (AFK) and the German Association for Political Science (DVPW).
