Joachim Draber

Joachim Draber (born May 28, 1939 in Kalkreuth , Meißen district ) is a former German politician ( SED ). In 1989/90 he was chairman of the Leipzig district council .

Life

Draber, son of a farmer , attended elementary school and completed an agricultural apprenticeship. In 1958/59 he worked as a conductor at VEB Kraftverkehr Waldheim , in 1959/61 as a driver and operations manager at the City Council of Waldheim. From 1961 to 1963 he served in the National People's Army . In 1964 he received his certificate and became a master of agriculture. He later qualified as an engineer and economist through a correspondence course at the College of Finance and as a qualified lawyer by studying law at the Humboldt University in Berlin in 1975.

In 1964 he joined the SED. From 1969 to 1978 he was deputy chairman, from 1978 to 1983 chairman of the council of the Döbeln district (successor to Alexander Wilke). From September 1983 he was first deputy chairman and from December 21, 1989 to April 1990 he was chairman of the Leipzig District Council.

On January 30, 1990, Draber resigned from the SED-PDS. According to Draber, the party was heavily burdened by its past and “obviously not capable of radical renewal”. Rather, it stands in the way of the renewal of the country.
