Rolf Opitz (politician)

Rolf Opitz (born August 3, 1929 in Weißig near Freital ; † May 11, 2006 ) was a German politician ( SED ).

Life

Opitz, the son of an unskilled worker and a laundry worker, attended elementary and vocational school and completed an apprenticeship as an administrative employee at the AOK in Freital and at the social insurance fund in Dresden.

1945 became a member of the KPD and the FDJ . He was initially an FDJ functionary and 1948/49 department head in the Dresden Social Insurance Institution and then from 1949 to 1951 press officer in the Ministry of Public Education and employee in the Ministry of Health of the State Government of Saxony . In 1951 he worked as HR manager at the Deutsche Handelszentrale in Dresden.

From 1952 to 1955 he studied at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam . He completed his studies as a lawyer and then worked in 1955/56 as Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Görlitz District , 1956/57 as Deputy Head of the Organizational Instructor Department at the Council of the District of Dresden and from 1957 to 1959 as Secretary and First Deputy Chairman of the council of the Riesa district . From 1959 to 1962 he was chairman of the council of the Freital district and from 1962 to 1969 first deputy chairman of the council of the Dresden district and a member of the district assembly.

From 1969 to 1971 he acted as deputy minister for the guidance and control of the district and district councils and from 1972 to 1974 as deputy head of the instructor department of the chairman of the GDR Council of Ministers .

From February 11, 1974 until his recall on December 21, 1989, Opitz was finally - as successor to Erich Grützner - chairman of the council of the Leipzig district . At the same time he was a member of the secretariat of the SED district leadership from February 10, 1974 to December 1989 and from 1976 to 1989 a member of the district assembly .
