Karl Adolphs

Karl Adolphs (born November 9, 1904 in Solingen ; † December 24, 1989 in Leipzig ) was a German politician ( KPD / SED ) and functionary .

Life

Adolphs grew up in Solingen as the son of a working class family. After attending elementary school , he trained as a nickel polisher. In 1918 he joined the SAJ and a year later the KJVD . In 1922 he became a member of the KPD and worked as a party functionary in the Rhineland . From 1926 to 1928 Adolphs graduated from the International Lenin School in Moscow. After his return he worked in the organizational division of the Central Committee of the KPD in 1928/29. In January 1929 he became an instructor in Breslau. In 1930/31 he was the organ leader of the Pomeranian district leadership in Stettin . Afterwards he was responsible for the distribution of literature in the Ruhr area in Essen, from November 1932 to April / May 1933 Adolph was sub-district secretary in Bochum .

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists , he took part in the resistance . In September 1933 Adolphs became head of the illegal KPD in the Mittelrhein district, and in March 1934 secretary of the illegal Hanover-Braunschweig district leadership. He was imprisoned in Hanover on February 4, 1935 and sentenced by the People's Court in June 1936 to 15 years in prison. From March 1944 to April 1945 he was a prisoner in Buchenwald concentration camp .

In 1945 he became mayor of Ballenstedt , then mayor of Bernburg (Saale) (1945/46) and later of Dessau (1946-1949). In 1946 he was a member of the SED and attended the administration school in Forst Zinna . In 1949 he became director of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk . From August 1952 to February 1959 he was chairman of the council of the Leipzig district and a member of the office of the SED district leadership there. From 1959 to 1961 he worked as department head of the cultural institutions at the City Council of Leipzig and director of the central cultural park "Clara Zetkin" . From 1961 to 1965 Adolphs was finally Deputy Mayor of Leipzig . From 1965 to 1971 he was chairman of the SED city party control commission in Leipzig.

From 1952 to 1968 he was also chairman of the Leipzig district council of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship .
