Joachim Georg Piepke

Joachim Georg Piepke SVD (born November 10, 1943 in Danzig ) is a German religious priest and theologian .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1962 at the Berthold-Gymnasium in Freiburg im Breisgau , in the same year entered the novitiate of the Steyler missionaries in the St. Gabriel Mission House near Vienna and was ordained a priest in 1969 in St. Augustin near Bonn after his philosophical-theological studies . From 1970 to 1980 he worked in São Paulo, Brazil, where, in addition to youth and suburban pastoral work, he was lecturer in dogmatics at the Instituto Teológico São Paulo from 1975 to 1980 and director of the same from 1978 to 1980. In 1983 he received his doctorate from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . In the same year he was appointed by the order's leadership to the Philosophical-Theological University SVD St. Augustin , where he was appointed full professor for dogmatic theology in 1995. Since 1986 he has been head of the Sankt Augustin-based Anthropos Institute . From 1998 to 2013 he was the rector of the Philosophical-Theological University SVD St. Augustin .

His current research focuses on Afro-American religions , the popular religiosity and Pentecostal movement of Latin America, the indigenous cultures of Brazil and the phenomenon of the break between modern culture and Christian preaching.
