Joachim Gans zu Putlitz (born May 7, 1860 in Retzin ; † March 9, 1922 in Stuttgart ) was general manager of the royal Württemberg court theater in Stuttgart and president of the German stage association .

Life

Joachim Gans zu Putlitz was one of the sons of Gustav Gans zu Putlitz . He was trained by Adolph L'Arronge in Berlin . Soon after King Wilhelm II of Württemberg took office, he was appointed director of the Württemberg court theater in 1892 at the age of 32.

Joachim Gans zu Putlitz was particularly interested in Scandinavian dramas. He performed pieces by Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson , Henrik Ibsen and August Strindberg . The liberal attitude of the king also allowed the performance of plays that would have fallen victim to censorship in Berlin .

But not only the possibility of bringing naturalistic and impressionistic pieces to the stage, but also the redesign of the theater as a double theater by Max Littmann after the fire in January 1902, as well as the excellent staff, favored the upswing that the Stuttgart theater under Joachim Gans zu Putlitz enjoyed 'Took aegis. From 1898 Hans Meery , who had previously worked in Berlin, was a theater director in Stuttgart. Furthermore, during Joachim Gans zu Putlitz's time, General Music Director Max von Schillings worked in Stuttgart, and actors and singers such as Raoul Aslan , Egmont Richter , Oskar Bolz , Karl Erb and Anna Sutter performed on the stages. Max von Schillings resigned in the spring of 1918 and was replaced by the young Fritz Busch , who claimed in his memoir that he got the job within a few minutes during a personal interview at Gans von Putlitz: “The conversation I had with Intendant Putlitz in his elegant room in the Royal Court Theater lasted little more than five minutes. My offer of a rehearsal guest performance was rejected as unnecessary, and I was the Royal Württemberg court conductor. I wired my wife as quickly as possible. "

After King Wilhelm resigned in the course of the November Revolution in 1918, Joachim von Putlitz took a leave of absence. He later gave up his position as general manager entirely. He was elected President of the German Stage Association in the spring of 1919. He died three years later after an operation.

Wedding of the daughter Adrienne

Joachim Gans zu Putlitz married Augusta Freiin von Dietrich. His eldest daughter Dorothea remained unmarried. In 1891 the second daughter Adrienne was born, who later married Bernhard Friedrich von Bülow . The marriage took place in Retzin in 1910. Since the village did not have a church, a large oak was consecrated in the castle park , which was later used as a church substitute. The connection resulted in three children. The two sons died in World War II , the daughter Dorothee married Carl Erdmann Graf von Pückler in 1933 and became a widow in 1941.

Adrienne von Bülow, like her cousin Stephanie, the daughter of the economist Stephan Gans zu Putlitz , and her husband Hans von Raumer are buried near Dätzingen Castle .
