Joachim Gottfried Danckwardt (born June 7, 1759 in Barth , † March 4, 1825 in Prerow ) was a German theologian .

Life

Joachim Gottfried Danckwardt was the son of a Barther doctor who received his doctorate in Greifswald in 1756 and was a city ​​physician from 1784 until his death in 1801 .

After studying theology, Joachim Gottfried Danckwardt worked as a private tutor, including for the Rügen tenant Ludwig Arndt in Grabitz . Here he also taught the writer and historian Ernst Moritz Arndt , whom Danckwardt later describes in his “Recollections of External Life” (1840) and the “Necessary Report from His Life” (1847). Arndt and Danckwardt remain lifelong friends.

On August 1st, 1787 Danckwardt became pastor in Bodstedt . A year later he married Christina Helena Friederica Möller, probably the daughter of his predecessor Andreas Johann Möller.

During the French occupation from 1807 to 1810, Danckwardt was known as the "Pastor of Bodstedt" through his courageous demeanor.

In 1813 he went to Prerow as a pastor , where he worked until his death. He had 12 children, two of whom died early.
