Joachim Negel

Joachim Negel (born January 18, 1962 in Neuhaus Castle ) is a German Roman Catholic fundamental theologian .

Negel studied Catholic and Protestant theology, philosophy and Romance studies in Würzburg, Paderborn, Paris ( Institut Catholique de Paris ), Bonn and Münster. In 1989 he was ordained a priest in Paderborn. From 1989 to 1993 he worked as a chaplain in Höxter, from 1993 to 2004 as a pastor or subsidiary in Hagen / Westf. and from 1998 to 2004 as a student pastor in Dortmund. From 2004 to 2009 he was Dean of Studies for the Jerusalem Theological Academic Year , and from 2009 to 2015 lecturer in the philosophy of religion and fundamental theology at the Philipps University of Marburg .

In 2002 Joachim Negel received his doctorate in dogmatics from the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. theol. PhD; In 2011 he completed his habilitation at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and received the venia legendi in the subject of fundamental theology. In October 2013 he started teaching there as a private lecturer .

Joachim Negel has been Full Professor of Fundamental Theology at the Theological Faculty of the University of Friborg and Director of the Institute for Ecumenical Studies (ISO) there since August 2015 .

His work focuses on soteriology and the doctrine of the sacraments, the hermeneutics of revelation and religious biography research. He deals with authors of French phenomenology ( Maurice Merleau-Ponty , Paul Ricoeur , Jean-Luc Marion , Michel Henry ) and the new phenomenology ( Heinrich Rombach , Hermann Schmitz , Bernhard Waldenfels ).

In May 2016, Negel was offered a position at the University of Bonn. He should teach there from the winter semester 2016/2017. The appointment negotiations were scheduled; it was only about the conditions. But the university withdrew in an opaque way.

In October 2018 there were press reports that the Cologne Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki had prevented Negel from being appointed to the University of Bonn in 2016. Negel told the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger that “Woelki was very angry in 2016 that the faculty had not considered his favorite theologian Thomas Marschler, who teaches in Augsburg, in its pre-selection. Marschler is Cologne priests and already known from his days as an altar boy with today's archbishop.
