Joachim Rachel (pastor, 1592)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joachim Rachel (* 1592 in Bützow ; † August 13, 1634 in Meldorf ) was a German pastor.

Live and act

Joachim Rachel was a son of the Bützow pastor Mauritius Rachel († 1611), who moved to Güstrow in 1594 , and his wife Dina, née Wichmann. Their father was a mayor of Barth . His cousins included the pastors Mauritius Rachel and Joachim Rachel .

After attending the Latin school in Güstrow, Rachel studied theology at the University of Rostock from 1605 . After receiving his master's degree in 1613, he taught at this university. From the summer of 1614 he was a member of the theological faculty. After that he probably worked temporarily as a tutor and went on trips. In 1617 he received a position as vice principal of the Kiel Latin School, whose principal he became in 1619.

In September 1624 Rachel received a call from the Husum Council as the school principal there, which the Gottorfer Hof would have wanted to award differently. No doubt his cousin Mauritius had supported him here. In 1628 he moved to Meldorf as a deacon, where he stayed until the end of his life.

Rachel evidently had no contacts that went beyond the close circle of theologically-learned people from the Rostock time.

Works

Rachel created several scholarly publications after completing her master's degree. Most of the publications come from his time as a lecturer in Rostock. Later he wrote an introduction to logic and Greek and Hebrew grammars, which were to be used in the school in Kiel, but which were probably a result of Rachel's own interests.

Rachel also wrote poetry. He wrote on a topic in five or six languages and dedicated these poems to different personalities of the Danish royal and Gottorf ducal houses. They testify to Rachel's education and language skills and could also be viewed as an application for a promotion.

family

Rachel was married to a woman of unknown name. The daughter Anna married Johannes Sommer, who worked as a deacon in Langenhorn . The son Danckwert worked as a goldsmith in Antwerp .
