Joan Hannah

Joan Lee Hannah (born April 27, 1939 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is a former American ski racer .

Hannah is from the Franconia ski resort in New Hampshire . She learned to ski in the nearby ski resort on Cannon Mountain . She was a member of the US national ski team in the early 1960s. She competed in her first international competition in 1960 at the Olympic Winter Games in Squaw Valley . In the Olympic Downhill she reached 21st place. Two years later, she achieved the greatest success of her career. At the World Ski Championships in Chamonix , she won the bronze medal in the giant slalom .

Later, Hannah was unable to fully confirm this achievement. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , she achieved her best placement with 15th place in the downhill. In her favorite discipline, giant slalom, she was only 26th. In 1966 she took part again in the World Championships in Portillo . After finishing her active career, Hannah worked as a ski instructor in Vail for many years . A few years ago she returned to her hometown Franconia.
