Joan Garcia-Junceda i Supervia (born February 13, 1881 in Barcelona , † 1948  ? In Blanes , Selva ) was a well-known Catalan illustrator , cartoonist and comic artist .

Life

Junceda cartoonized the life of Catalan society for both adults and children during the first three decades of the twentieth century. He illustrated numerous books.

His cartoon works show a mixture of graphics that tell a comical or satirical story in a picture or in series, mostly with a punchline . His first publications were created with critical intent through his pictorial wit, in which he used no words, and seriously drawn comments on political events of the day . He quickly became known and loved in Catalonia and throughout Spain.

Its success began in 1902 with the cartoon series ¡Cu-Cut! . Issue # 1 was an allusion to political pressure on the media. His caricature was entitled: La Feyna de la Premsa Catalana ('The Work of the Catalan Press').

In this cartoon, he expressed his extraordinary technical skills and his political humor and visual wit, alluding to the celebration of victory . His cartoons appeared mainly in nationalist weekly newspapers , daily newspapers and magazines with the titles and characters: La Tralla, Metralla, L'Estevet, L'Hereu, El Gall, la Cuca Fera, Or i Grana, La Piula etc. Was in the field of youth literature he is one of the leading Spanish cartoon artists. He designed En Patufet , Virolet and Esquitx .

He also worked for ecclesiastical Catalan publications such as La Voz del Angel de la Guarda and Good Seny magazines . He also illustrated most of the works of the writer Josep M. Folch i Torres such as the editions of the colleccions Biblioteca Gentil and Biblioteca Patufet .

He mostly signed his works with pseudonyms such as Titella, Jafet, Ribera, Medí i Papassa and also with the monogram of two entwined letters or signed with musical notes. He died in Blanes in 1948. His style was inspirational for other Catalan cartoonists of the 20th century such as Antoni Batllori Jofré (1915–1999) and Josep Serra Massana (1896–1980)
