Joane is a freguesia (German:  municipality ) and Vila (German:  small town ) in northern Portugal .

history

Joane was first officially mentioned in 1065 . The place name goes back a long way to a country estate from Roman times, the local villa rustica of the landowner Joannem.

On July 3, 1986 , Joane was elevated to a small town (Vila).
