Paulista , officially Portuguese Município de Paulista , is a city in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco .
It is located at a latitude of 07º57'00 "south and 34º52'59" west at an altitude of 13 meters above sea level and in 2010 had 300,466 inhabitants. The number of inhabitants was estimated on July 1, 2018 by the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) at 329,117 inhabitants, who are called Paulistenses, Portuguese: paulistenses .

The area is 97 km². Paulista is located on the coast of the Atlantic , with 14 km of beaches. In the vicinity are the places Abreu e Lima , Janga , Pau Amarelo , Conceição and Maria Farinha . Recife , the capital of Pernambucos, is about 12 km south. The patron saint of Paulista is Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres (Our Lady of Pleasures).
history
The area that is known today as Paulista was created in 1689 when Manoel de Moraes Navarro , known as "de O Paulista" (roughly: the one from São Paulo) , acquired large areas in this region, the Pernambuco captaincy . Since then, the area has been developed for sugar cane cultivation.
Until Paulista became an independent city in 1935, Paulista belonged to the city of Olinda from the beginning .
economy

Sports
Paulista is home to the Íbis Sport Club, founded in 1938, and the Paulistano Futebol Clube , where Rivaldo began his career.

Paulista is the birthplace of Rivaldo, a Brazilian soccer player and world champion.
