Joanna Senyszyn (born February 1, 1949 in Gdynia ) is a Polish politician , professor of economics , member of the Sejm for the electoral alliance of Left and Democrats (Lewica i Demokraci) in the IV., V. and VI . Electoral term. She is deputy party leader of the Federation of the Democratic Left (SLD) and is considered a sharp critic of Catholicism .

Scientific activity

Joanna Senyszyn graduated from Gdansk University with a degree in economics . From 1994 to 1995 she was the first female rector of the College of Administration and Economics in Gdynia . From 1996 to 2002 she was Dean of the Faculty of Management at the University of Gdansk. She currently heads the Market Studies Chair at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gdańsk.

She is the author of four books and over 150 publications in the fields of marketing , living standards and consumption. She supervised 500 master's theses and 5 doctoral theses (as of 2007).

She leads a column in the anti-clerical weekly Fakty i Mity (facts and myths) under the title Katedra Profesor Joanny S. (Chair of Professor Joanna S.). In 2006 she received the Lustro Award for Viewers of the Szkło kontaktowe (Contact Lens ) program on TVN24 .

Political activity

From the 1970s until the self-dissolution, she was active in the Polska Zjednoczona Partia Robotnicza (Polish United Workers' Party - PZPR). In 1980 she joined Solidarność and was a member until 1995. In 2001 she was elected to the Sejm from the SLD - UP list. In 2004 she ran unsuccessfully for the European Parliament . Since 2005 she has been the deputy chairwoman of the SLD . In 2005 she was re-elected to the Sejm. In the 2007 Sejm elections she was elected for the third time. She received 25,193 votes in her constituency of Gdynia - Słupsk . In the 5th and 6th electoral terms of the Sejm, she was deputy chairman of the Polish-Taiwanese parliamentary group. In addition, she was a member of the Sejm commission for liaison with the Polonia Abroad .

She was elected to the European Parliament in the 2009 European elections . This ended their membership in the Sejm on June 10, 2009.

She is on the board of the European Parliament Platform for Secularism in Politics (EPPSP).

Social activity

Joanna Senyszyn is often the initiator of various actions aimed at tolerance and equality.

She is known for her commitment to women's rights and, together with other politicians, initiated the legislative project for self-determined parenting. She has been a member of the Polish Animal Welfare Association for 30 years.
