Joanne Froggatt (born August 23, 1980 in Littlebeck , North Yorkshire ) is a British actress .

Career

At the age of 13, Joanne Froggatt attended drama school in Maidenhead , Berkshire and was also a member of the Rounders youth theater group at Alan Ayckbourn's Stephen Joseph Theater in Scarborough .

Froggatt made her acting debut in 1996 in the role of a teenage prostitute on the British television series The Bill . Apparently unsure of an acting career, she began working in a regular job in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. At that moment she was offered an audition for the British endless series Coronation Street . She auditioned and was accepted for the role of Zoe Tattersall . She occupied this role from May 1997 to December 1998. Since then she has had roles in television series such as Heartbeat , Dinnerladies , Bad Girls and Nature Boy as well as in television films such as Lorna Doone (2000) and The Last Detective (2003). She was nominated for an Emmy in 2012, 2014 and 2015 for the portrayal of Anna in Downton Abbey and received a Golden Globe Award in 2015 . In 2016 she was again nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in Downton Abbey .

Private life

On October 13, 2012, Joanne Froggatt married her long-time partner James Cannon. The couple live in Buckinghamshire . After eight years of marriage, the couple separated.
