Jobst Brandt (born January 14, 1935 in New York City , New York - † May 5, 2015 in Palo Alto , California ) was an American mechanical engineer , inventor , bicycle enthusiast , teacher and author .

Life

Brandt was born in New York, where his father, in 1933 after the seizure of power by the National Socialists of Germany fled economist Karl Brandt , a professor at the New School for Social Research was.

The family moved to Palo Alto on the Pacific coast in 1938 , where Brandt not only spent his youth, but also studied mechanical engineering at Stanford University until 1958 .
