Jobst von der Recke (* around 1490 in Heeren ( Unna district ); † 1567 at the moated castle in Heeren) was canon in Münster and bishop of Dorpat (now Tartu) in Livonia .

His parents were Goddert von der Recke-Heeren and Elisabeth von Droste. His father's brother, Johann von der Recke , had been coadjutor since 1541 and 43rd Landmeister of the Teutonic Order in Livonia from 1549 to 1551 . Jobst von der Recke belonged to the clergy and was canon of Münster.

Through the intercession of his uncle, he was elected Bishop of Dorpat in Livonia in 1543. Jobst resided at Dorpat Castle. In 1545 he calls himself “By God's grace chosen bishop and master of the Dorpat monastery”. He had the rank of prince-bishop . His bishopric was endangered for various reasons. An invasion by the Russians was to be feared. The tribute payments to the tsar could not be made in full. Many respected citizens of Dorpat joined Lutheranism. In view of this precarious situation, Jobst left the diocese of Dorpat on April 18, 1552, after nine years in office, to practice his canonies in Münster, Westphalia. How justified his fears about the fate of his diocese were was shown in 1558 when the Russians conquered Dorpat, destroyed the castle and kidnapped Jobst's successor to Russia, where he died in captivity.

It is assumed that Jobst wanted to exchange the precarious bishop's seat in Dorpat with the lucrative diocese of Münster . He had high hopes of becoming Prince-Bishop in Munster. Even before Franz von Waldeck's death, he had received relevant information from the circle of canons . When the bishop's chair in Münster became vacant in 1553, Jobst applied for the office. His disappointment was great when not he but Wilhelm Ketteler was elected. Jobst resigned from the clergy and retired to his moated castle Heeren.

In 1554 he married Johanna von Heiden, a nun from Nottuln. From this marriage the heiress of the House of Heeren, Katharina, emerged, who had a new house built in 1606, today's moated castle Haus Heeren . Jobst von der Recke died in 1567.
