Johann von der Recke (* around 1480 ; † 1551 ) was a knight of the Teutonic Order and from 1549 to 1551 landmaster in Livonia . He belonged to the army line of the Westphalian nobility family von der Recke .

Career

In 1514 Johann vdR entered the Teutonic Order in Livonia. In 1525 he was appointed Komtur in Wenden (Ordensburg) , followed in 1533 by Komtur in Marienburg (Ordensburg) and in 1535 by Komtur in Fellin (Ordensburg) . From 1549 until his death in 1551, Johann von der Recke was elected Landmeister in Livonia to succeed Hermann Hasenkamp von Brüggeney . At the same time he was Prince of Germany . During his tenure, there was largely peace in Livonia . However, the area was hit by serious epidemics, probably the plague .

Johann von der Recke was unmarried, his nephew Jobst von der Recke († 1567) was Prince-Bishop of Dorpat (now Tartu) from 1544 until his resignation in 1553 and then returned to Westphalia.
