Jochen Blume (photographer)

Jochen Blume (born February 28, 1925 in Hanover ; † April 4, 2018 in Hamburg ) was a retired German photographer and professor .

After his release from Soviet captivity in 1948, Jochen Blume began working as a press photographer for various news agencies and later for Bildzeitung and Stern . From 1973 he taught at the Hamburg University of Design as a professor of photography . He was also a lecturer at the Academy for Journalism in Hamburg . He has also photographed for Stern for many years .

Life

Jochen Blume grew up with his mother. He only met his father when he was 26 years old. With him he shared a passion for photography. He never trained as a photographer. Since 1979, Blume has been a member of the German Association of Journalists (DJV).

Third Reich

During the Third Reich , he initially followed the ideas of National Socialism as a dream dancer , as he later called it . At the age of 14 he got the offer to attend a national political educational institution in Burg (Dithmarschen) with the aim of becoming a teacher. With the military collapse in East Prussia, he was taken prisoner by the Soviets . There he denied his Jungvolk and Hitler Youth past and was released from captivity in 1948 as politically unaffected .

Work as a press photographer

After his return from captivity, he initially worked for various news agencies . In 1951 he became chief photographer at dpa . In 1952 he was hired by the then newly founded Bild newspaper, which he later left in a dispute. Henri Nannen then brought Blume to the Stern, for which he subsequently provided numerous highly regarded photos, many of which made it onto the cover. Later he also worked as a publishing manager at Bauer-Verlag .

Professorships

In 1972 he was appointed professor at the University of Applied Sciences for Design . Since 1973 he has also been a lecturer at the Academy for Journalism .
