Jochen Finke

Jochen Finke (born August 3, 1941 in Glogau , Prussian province of Lower Silesia ) is a German set designer .

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Grimma , an apprenticeship as a landscape gardener in Dresden , an internship as a theater painter in Stralsund and a discontinued study of garden architecture in Berlin, Finke studied from 1964 at the Berlin University of Fine and Applied Arts under Heinrich Kilger and obtained a diploma in set design in 1969. After a two-year master class course at the Berlin Academy of the Arts with Karl von Appen , his first set design work at the Berliner Ensemble and the subsequent engagement at the Deutsches Theater, he was chief set designer at the Berliner Volksbühne from 1980 to 1992 .

In addition to his work in Berlin, u. a. with the directors Adolf Dresen , Friedo Solter and Siegfried Höchst , it was Christoph Schroth in Schwerin and Cottbus, Wolfgang Engel in Dresden and Vienna , Peter Schweiger in St. Gallen and Joao Lourenco in Lisbon , for their productions Finke, mostly in collaboration with Renée Hendrix as a costume designer who designed the stage.

From his experience with elementary design processes, an extensive teaching activity had developed parallel to his theater work since 1974.

In 1986 Finke received the Goethe Prize of the City of Berlin and in 1987 the Critics' Prize of the Berliner Zeitung .

Finke lives in Berlin.

Teaching

From 1974 to 1990 Finke taught "Design / Space" at the Fachschule für Werbung und Gestaltung Berlin, from 1977 to 1979 "Design Basics of Scenography" at the Art College Berlin and from 1983 to 1989 "Scene and Space" at the University's Directing Institute for acting in Berlin . Together with Renée Hendrix, he led a summer semester for scenography at the Helsinki Theater Academy in 1985 and from 1994 to 2000 he held a teaching position for "stage design" in the architecture department of the Brandenburg Technical University in Cottbus .
