Jochen Gaile

Jochen Gaile (born May 13, 1943 in Dresden ) is a German historian and publicist .

Life

Jochen Gaile studied history, philosophy and politics in Marburg and Munich from 1965 to 1971 . From 1971 to 1973 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for New History at the University of Marburg. In 1976 he received his doctorate with a thesis on ideology education under the sign of the emerging bourgeois society from the late 18th to the middle of the 19th century.

Subsequently, Gaile worked, among other things, as assistant to the editor- in - chief at Brockhaus-Verlag , in the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin , as federal manager and head of the office of the German Evangelical Working Group for Adult Education and as a university lecturer at the seminar for didactics of history at the University of Frankfurt am Main .

In his work as a journalist and freelance author, Gaile has written and supervised numerous publications in the field of culture and history - among others as part of the multimedia project Die Deutsche Geschichte (1989), the ARD series We Germans (1991), the 20-volume world - and cultural history in the publishing house Die Zeit (2006).

Gaile's research focuses on the history of ideas, especially the processes of ideology formation in the 19th and 20th centuries.
