Jochen Kienzle (born November 24, 1959 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German art collector and board member of the Berlin Kienzle Art Foundation.

Life

Jochen Kienzle was born on November 24, 1959 in Freiburg im Breisgau as the son of the entrepreneur Jochen Kienzle Sr. and his wife Luitgard Kienzle into the traditional entrepreneurial family Kienzle. He is the great-grandson of Jakob Kienzle , the founder of “ Kienzle Uhrenfabriken ”, one of the world's most important watch manufacturers at the turn of the century. Over the decades, Jochen Kienzle's grandfather Herbert Kienzle Sr. founded the company Kienzle Apparate GmbH Villingen , whose management was finally taken over by Jochen Kienzle's father together with his brother Herbert Kienzle Jr. until 1990.

After spending his early childhood in Villingen-Schwenningen , Jochen Kienzle attended the Schloss Salem boarding school in Hohenfels from 1971 to 1972 . Following his general university on Wirtschaftsgymnasium Donaueschingen he graduated in the early 80s, first a carpenter training in Konstanz. This was followed from 1986 to 1996 by studying art history and perceptual psychology at the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich. During this time, Jochen Kienzle was strongly committed to promoting up-and-coming artists and initiated the “Exhibition for the Promotion of Young Artists in Private Spaces”.

Kienzle Art Commission GmbH and Kienzle Art Foundation

After moving to Berlin, in 1997 he founded the Kienzle & Gmeiner GmbH gallery together with Anette Gmeiner. In 2001 Jochen Kienzle took over the sole management of the gallery. In 2009 the name was finally changed to Kienzle Art Commission GmbH. In the same year, Jochen Kienzle finally launched the Kienzle Art Foundation (foundation under civil law), of which he is still director today.

The Kienzle Art Foundation places a special focus on the public communication of art. At its core is Jochen Kienzle's art collection, which includes works from the 1960s to contemporary conceptual tendencies. Important artists in the collection are Klaus Merkel , Josef Kramhöller , Jack Goldstein , Jonathan Lasker , Gary Stephan , Franz Erhard Walther , Louise Fishman, Michael Ballou, Anna Oppermann, Bertold Mathes, Fabian Ginsberg, Stefan Hayn, Anke Völk, Frank Maier, Claudia Kugler , Jasmine Justice and Peter Zimmermann.

In the public eye, Jochen Kienzle is primarily in his role as director of the Kienzle Art Foundation, which has entered into various collaborations with other art foundations and associations since its establishment. Here Jochen Kienzle acted both as an initiator and as a partner in projects to promote artistic outsider positions and the rediscovery of "forgotten" artists, and over the years made a name for himself as an active member of the Berlin art scene. Jochen Kienzle represented two artists of the documenta (Jonathan Lasker and Emilio Prini ).

As a private art collector, Jochen Kienzle regularly makes works from his collection available on loan, takes part in discussions and discussions with experts, and is often asked for as an exhibition guide, where he especially oversees events for young art enthusiasts. An exhibition of his collection outside his own rooms took place for the first time in 2013 at the Magdeburg Art Museum .
