Joe Sostilio
Joseph "Joe" Sostilio (born January 3, 1915 in Newton , Massachusetts , † July 9, 2000 in Tarpon Springs , Florida ) was an American racing driver .
Career
Sostilio began his racing career in 1932 at the age of 17 in a Ford A stock car. In 1935 and 1936 he won the championship in dirt track racing for New England . In 1938 he won the Midget Cars in the New England Championship and in 1939 in the Vermont Championship . After the Second World War he continued his career mainly with midget cars and won numerous races and several championships.
He started in four races for the AAA National Series in 1954 . As the best result, he was able to take seventh place twice (in Langhorne and Darlington ). Both times he drove a Kurtis Kraft - Offenhauser . However, the four starts are compared to 15 non-qualifications between 1950 and 1963, including three times in Indianapolis .
Sostilio died in 2000 at the age of 85. Two years later, he was posthumously inducted into the NEAR Hall of Fame.
