Joseph "Joey" Gase (born February 8, 1993 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa ) is an American NASCAR racing driver. He currently drives the number 52 Chevrolet Camaro for Jimmy Means Racing in the Xfinity Series. He is also used sporadically in the Sprint Cup, where he drives the Ford Fusion number 32 for Go FAS Racing .

Early years

Gase began racing at Hawkeye Downs Speedway when he competed in junior classes there in 2001. In his first race (in a kart ) he was able to record a victory. In the following four years (2002 to 2005) he won the go-kart championship four times in a row at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. Then he started driving late models and stock car modifieds.

When Gase was 18 years old, his mother died of a cerebral aneurysm . Gase then campaigned strongly for organ donations , as his mother's organs were able to help a total of 66 other people. For his commitment, he received the Comcast Community Champion Award at the Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series banquet at the end of the 2015 season.

After Gase began a limited number of American Speed Association events and individual ARCA races in 2008 , he competed in the USAR Pro Cup Series in 2010 and 2011 , as well as the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East . In August 2011, Gase made his Xfinity Series debut (then Nationwide Series) at Iowa Speedway . All in all, by the end of the season he started five times for Go Green Racing in the Ford with the number 39. The 20th place on his debut was his best result of the 2011 season.

In January 2012 it was announced that Gase would drive the car with the number 39 again, but this time as a full-time driver. However, there was a lack of sponsors, so that in the end he drove for several teams and could not take part in all races. In December of the same year, he announced that he would compete in 2013 for Jimmy Means Racing (for which he had already partly raced the previous year) in the Nationwide Series. But again financial problems meant that he partly started for his old employer Go Green Racing and had to pause a few races. On May 2, 2015, Gase achieved his best result to date in the Xfinity Series when he finished fifth in the Winn-Dixie 300 on the Talladega Superspeedway .

Sprint Cup Series

On September 14, 2014, Gase made his debut for Go FAS Racing at Chicagoland Speedway in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, in which he finished 37th. In total, he made three more starts this season, with 33rd place in Phoenix, his best result. In the following year he drove three races (for the AAA Texas 500 he could not qualify) in the highest NASCAR league. His best result was the SpongeBob SquarePants 400 at Kansas Speedway with 38th place. In 2016 he made it to 32nd place at the Good Sam 500 in Phoenix, which is his best career result in the Sprint Cup so far.
