Johan Heinrich Neuman
Johan Heinrich Neuman , also Johan Hendrik Neuman Gzn (born January 7, 1819 in Cologne , † April 14, 1898 in The Hague ) was a Dutch portrait and miniature painter and lithographer born in Germany.
Neuman was born as the son of the merchant Gerrit Neuman (1785-1859) and Henriette Cornelia Nahuijs (1795-1844) from Schoonhoven .
Neuman studied at the Koninklijke Akademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam with Louis Henri de Fontenay, Jan Adam Kruseman and Nicolaas Pieneman .
He painted genre pictures and especially portraits, sometimes based on the photographic templates. He also made miniatures on ivory and lithographs.
Neuman became a member of " Arti et Amicitiae " in 1849 and a. at the "Exhibition of Living Masters", also showed portrait miniatures at the 1910 exhibition in Rotterdam.
He married Aletta Catharina Petronella Elisabeth Theunisz in 1850. The future painter Clasina Carolina Frederika Neuman (1851–1908) was born from this marriage.
