Johan Henrik Antenor Nydqvist (born January 31, 1817 in Stockholm , † May 24, 1914 in Trollhättan ) was a Swedish engineer and industrialist .

Nydqvist was born on January 31, 1817, the son of surgeon Herman Nydqvist.

He attended the Teknologiska Institutet in Stockholm , which he graduated in 1833. In January he took a job at a spinning mill in Mölndal , where he stayed until 1836.

He then went on a three-year study trip through Europe with his brother, working in various companies in Chemnitz , Austria , Switzerland and Alsace .

He dealt with the development of water turbines and was able to acquire several patents for this. In 1847 he founded the company Trollhättans Mekaniska Verkstad with two school friends , which he ran independently from 1867 and which was to become one of the largest private companies in Sweden. In 1906 he passed the reins of the company into the hands of his son Herman Nydqvist .
