Johann Balthasar Frankart (also Frankhart, * 1712 in Hamburg ; † 1743 during a trip to the Baltic Sea) was a German portrait painter who worked in Saint Petersburg .

Frankart, Francart, Francard or Frankhart became a pupil of the portrait painter Hans Hinrich Rundt . After graduating, he almost exclusively painted portraits.

From 1737 he lived in Saint Petersburg and worked as a portrait painter for the Petersburg nobility. During his six-year stay in the Russian capital, he fell ill with tuberculosis and died on the journey home from where he wanted to go to Italy.
