Johann Boldewan , also Johannes Boldewan (* around 1485 in Greifenberg in Pomerania , † 1533 in Belzig ) was a German Protestant theologian of the Reformation period.

Life

Very little life data is available on Boldewan. His place of origin is known from his matriculation entry in 1503 at the University of Greifswald . After his studies he apparently went to Belbuck and belonged there to the Premonstratensian order . In this order he was "praepositus monialium" in Stolp from 1511 to 1512 , then returned to Belbuck and was named on March 15, 1514 as the Pleban of Treptow an der Rega . A year later he was prior and entrusted with management duties. In this capacity he appeared as abbot of the Pudagla monasteryfrom 1515 to 1517. On April 28, 1517 he was first named as abbot of Belbuck Monastery and on June 28 of the same year he traditionally took the oboe oath to the bishop of Cammin Martin I. Karith .

In the course of the influences of the Reformation , Boldewan joined the movement that was burgeoning in Pomerania. In the course of the countermeasures initiated against the Reformation, he was released from his position in 1522, after the departure of Johannes Bugenhagen , due to the resolutions of the Edict of Worms due to "Lutheran heresy". He then went to Wittenberg , from where he was placed in a pastor's position in Belzig. When Bugenhagen carried out his church ordinance work in Hamburg, he suggested that Boldewan should be given leave of absence to the Petrikirche in Hamburg and should support his efforts towards the Hamburg church order. Hamburg sources assume that he was married. After Bugenhagen's departure from Hamburg, Boldewan returned to his pastoral position in Belzig and died there shortly before December 14, 1533. Belzig's visitation files from 1534 mention Boldewan's widow.
