Johann Christian Foerster (philosopher)

Johann Christian Foerster (also: Förster ; * December 14, 1735 in Halle (Saale) ; † March 19, 1798 ibid) was a German philosopher, historian and political scientist.

Life

Foerster had studied at the University of Halle and acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy there in 1759 with the disputation de deliriis . On May 14, 1761, he became an associate professor and July 1, 1769, he became a full professor of philosophy and gave lectures on the political sciences. He was Ephorus of the royal and Halberstadt free tables and assessor of the Chamber Deputation. Foerster, who had also worked as a historian, was appointed to the Royal Prussian War and Domain Council in 1787 and in 1791 was the overseer of the university's botanical and economic garden . Foerster was also editor of the Hallische for a whileIntelligence sheets had acted, also took part in the organizational tasks of the Halle University and was prorector of the Alma Mater three times in 1778/79, 1785/86, 1794/95 .
