Johann Christian Hebenstreit (born April 21, 1686 in Neunhofen , † December 6, 1756 in Leipzig ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian , philologist and philosopher .

Life

Hebenstreit studied theology at the University of Leipzig from 1707 to 1713 . From 1721 he was a preacher at the Nikolaikirche . From 1725 to 1731 he was vice principal of the Thomas School in Leipzig . He received his doctorate in 1734 as Dr. theol. He became professor of Hebrew in 1731, associate professor in 1740 and full professor of theology in 1746 . In 1745/46 and 1751/52 he was rector of the university and in 1750/53/55 dean of the theological faculty in Leipzig. From 1750 to 1754 he was canon of Zeitz and 1754 of Meißen.

Hebenstreit was married to Christiana Dorothea Schütz since 1730. The two had two children.
