Johann Christian Klengel (born April 5, 1751 in Kesselsdorf , † December 19, 1824 in Dresden ) was a German etcher and painter .

Life and work

Klengel attended the drawing school in Dresden. His teacher was Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich . In 1790 he went to Italy and in 1802 became a professor at the Dresden Art Academy . One of his students was Karl Gottfried Traugott Faber . He found his final resting place in the Eliasfriedhof in Dresden in field A 2-3.

He painted ideal landscapes and idyllic compositions, mostly in the morning or evening light. In 1812 he published a collection of twelve folio sheets for landscape artists under the label "Principes de dessins pour les paysages" and in 1824 a similar number of original sheets , now known as "Études de paysages" .
