Johann Christian Ruprecht

Johann Christian Ruprecht (also Johann Christian Rupert or Kristian Ruprecht ; * around 1600 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia ; † around 1666 ) was a German painter .

He came to Nuremberg as a painter's journeyman in 1633 at the latest . In 1634 he became a master craftsman, in 1635 he became a citizen of Nuremberg. He married Susanna Jonabach in 1633 and after her death in 1641 worked for some time in Vienna, where he became court painter to Emperor Ferdinand III. was appointed. In 1644 he was back in Nuremberg, where Georg Pretting became his apprentice. In 1645 he married Helena Brandmayer. In 1651/52 he worked again in Vienna. In August 1652 he returned to Nuremberg, where Daniel Preißler became his journeyman. In June 1658 he was involved in setting up a theater performance at the Egidiengymnasium in Nuremberg .

He copied several works by Albrecht Dürer that were in Vienna , such as The Martyrdom of Ten Thousand Christians in 1653 and the All Saints' Day in 1654 , both today in the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna , and Mary with the pear slices , today in the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig . He painted a panel of the raising of Lazarus for the Lorenz Church in Nuremberg .

The exact date and place of his death are not known, he was formerly buried in family grave no. 365 at the Johannisfriedhof in Nuremberg, his epitaph has not been preserved.
