Johann Christian Themel , latinized Joannes Christianus Themelius (born June 23, 1709 in Oelsnitz / Vogtl. , † July 26, 1755 in Annaberg ) was a German doctor and editor of one of the first magazines in the Saxon Ore Mountains .

Life

Johann Christian Themel came from Oelsnitz and studied medicine at the University of Jena . There he submitted the dissertation Dissertationum Philosophicarum De Partibus Hominis Essentialibus Secunda, which was accompanied by Johann Christian Stock in 1732 . De Corpore Humano , Jena 1732. He then settled in the Saxon mountain town of Annaberg as a general practitioner, where he worked until the end of his life.

In 1747 he published the standard work Midwifery Art in Leipzig .

In 1747 Johann Christian Themel began to publish his own magazine, which he Ober = Erzgebürgisches Journal, or: Collection of all kinds of things in the local nature = science in general, as well as other sciences, in the Mechanics, Economics, Jägerey, Hammerwerke, Fabriquen, Action - Matters and Arts, pertinent strange treatises, collected for pleasure and benefit , which were initially printed by August Valentin Friesen, later published in Freiberg and Leipzig by Theodor Gottlieb Reinhold. The readers' favor of this new magazine was, however, very limited, so that Themel had to stop the publication of his magazine as early as 1751. However, some contributions caused an international sensation at the time, such as the description written by Johann Christian Themel of a freak born on January 25, 1751.

In 1751 he submitted another dissertation at the University of Leipzig under the title Commentatio Medica Qua Nutritionem Foetus In Utero Per [...] .

In Annaberg, where he owned the Löwenapotheke, he became a council member in 1751 and a city judge in 1755.
