Johann Christoph Bohl
Johann Christoph Bohl (also: Bohlius, Bohle ; born November 16, 1703 in Königsberg (Prussia) ; † December 29, 1785 ibid) was a German physician.
Life
Bohl had enrolled at the University of Königsberg on September 25, 1719 in order to study medical science. He continued his studies at the University of Leipzig . On September 20, 1725 he enrolled at the University of Leiden where he became a student of the famous Herman Boerhaave , as well as a fellow student of Albrecht von Haller . He received his doctorate there on July 26, 1726 with the dissertation "de morsu" as a doctor of medicine. He then spent four years in Amsterdam with the Dutch anatomist Frederik Ruysch . Traveling via Berlin, he arrived back in Königsberg on August 15, 1730. He probably worked as a general practitioner in Königsberg and became a Samland physicist in 1734.
On May 16, 1741 he was admitted to the medical faculty of the Königsberg University, held his pro loco disputation summo cum adplausu on August 14, and on September 23, 1741 became the second full professor of medicine and associated royal Prussian personal physician. After the death of Melchior Philipp Hartmann , he took over the first full professorship in 1766 and thus became an assessor in the Königsberg Medical College. Bohl is known as a sponsor of Immanuel Kant , whom he also supported financially during his time at the Collegium Fridericianum . Bohl also took part in the organizational tasks of the Königsberg University and was involved in the winter semesters 1741/42, 1745/46, 1749/50, 1753/54, 1757/58, 1761/62, 1765/66, 1769/70 and 1773 / 74 Rector of the Alma Mater .
