Johann Christoph Köcher (born April 23, 1699 in Lobenstein ; † September 21, 1772 in Jena ) was a German Lutheran clergyman and theologian.

Life

Johann Christoph Köcher was the son of the deacon Joseph Heinrich Köcher in Lobenstein. He attended school in Gera and studied from 1716 at the University of Jena , where he stayed with the theologian Michael Förtsch (1654-1724), theology. After a break in studies, he received his master's degree in Jena in 1722 and from then on held lectures at the University of Jena. In 1729 he was appointed rector of the Ratsgymnasium in Osnabrück . In 1737, when the University of Göttingen was inaugurated , he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD. In 1742, Köcher became superintendent of the schools and churches in Braunschweig and a member of the consistory there. In 1751 he received a call to the theological faculty of the University of Jena and was rector of the university several times. In 1771, Köcher became a councilor in Weimar . He is the author of numerous works.
