Johann Christoph Neyffer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Christoph Neyffer (mostly shortened to J. Christoph Neyffer or Christoph Neyffer , * 1582 in Herrenberg , † 1632 in Tübingen ) was a Württemberg painter and draftsman who lived in Tübingen and worked as a "college painter".

Life

Neyffer had lived in Tübingen since 1606 at the latest, where he made a series of drawings that illustrated the buildings, interiors, gardens and life in the ducal educational institution for knights Collegium illustrious , which recently got a new building. Twelve drawings were made into etchings by the goldsmith Ludwig Ditzinger from Reutlingen and appeared around 1607 in the font of the court master Hans Joachim von Grünthal .

Neyffer was married to a daughter of the Stuttgart court painter Sebastian Ramminger .

As a “college painter”, Neyffer painted numerous portraits, all of which have been lost. His drawings by Collegium are artistically irrelevant, but interesting from a cultural and historical perspective.
