Sebastian Ramminger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Sebastian Ramminger (called Schreiber ; * between 1560 and 1570 in Heidenheim an der Brenz ; † August 29, 1617 in Stuttgart ) was a Württemberg painter who worked in Stuttgart and was appointed court painter on July 1, 1612. He was a younger brother of Jacob Ramminger and a brother-in-law of the painter Hans Steiner .

Life

Ramminger came from a family of scribes. He married in 1588 and was probably brought to Stuttgart in 1590 by his brother-in-law Hans Steiner († 1610) as his journeyman to paint the interior of the new pleasure house . Ramminger is only mentioned in connection with the first phase of the work in the great hall, and no specific work in the Lusthaus can be assigned to him. In the great hall, Offstein was soon replaced by Hans Melchior , but he definitely had to "play the annates". It is not clear whether these were portraits of the former rulers of Württemberg, which were carried out in the lower room, or the painting of the portrait busts in the vicinity of the Lusthaus.

After that, Ramminger only received smaller orders from the city of Stuttgart. In the tax book 1595–1600, a total tax of just 1 and 6 ß is recorded.

Around 1600 Ramminger took part in the sea book that his brother Jacob produced on behalf of Duke Friedrich . Sebastian Ramminger's task was to insert the coats of arms of the duchy, the cities and the offices in this work consisting of 24 parchment sheets. Sebastian Ramminger was rewarded with 28 fl for the precious miniature representations executed in bright colors, some of which are marked with the year 1600 or 1601 (one bears the year 1596) and adorn the leaves .

After the death of Johann Philipp Greter in 1612, Ramminger was appointed as his successor as court painter. Only from this point on did he receive orders from the Duke again. Although this title finally “qualified” him, no concrete works by Ramminger and no judgments about his work are known.

Sebastian Ramminger had to know the Tübingen painter Johann Christoph Neyffer because he was his son-in-law. He also knew Tobias Spingler , who tried to settle in Tübingen in 1614 because one of Ramminger's daughters was engaged to Spingler at the time.

Apart from the coat of arms in the Seebuch , no other painting work has been preserved by Ramminger. There are also no known drawings by him.
