Johann Christoph Pfeiffer

Johann Christoph Pfeiffer (born April 10, 1705 in Erfurt ; † June 14, 1768 ) was a German Lutheran theologian and clergyman .

Life

The son of the Lutheran theologian Johann Lorenz Pfeiffer received his education in Erfurt , Rudolstadt , Altenburg , Leipzig and Jena . In 1728 he was installed as a preacher in the Erfurt Predigerkirche and at the same time a member of the Protestant Ministry . He received the diaconate at the Augustinian and Johanniskirche in 1734, the pastorate the following year . In addition, he officiated from 1739 as a grammar school and orphanage overseer. Shortly thereafter, he also began helping his father in his work as a senior minister and as a teacher.

Pfeiffer received his master's degree and became a doctor of theology in Jena in 1740 . In the following year he was appointed professor at the Rutheneum grammar school in Gera , and he was also appointed superintendent . Thereupon he turned down an appointment as general superintendent as well as church and consistorial councilor to Eisenach .

Pfeiffer died in 1768 at the age of 63. In addition to a dissertation, a collection of funeral speeches from his son-in-law who died in Erfurt in 1769, which also contains a portrait of Pfeiffer, he translated from the French language.
