Johann Christoph Heinrich von Rotberg (born November 26, 1720 in Schliengen ; † April 5, 1772 in Konstanz ) was provost (head) of the knightly monastery in Bruchsal and canon in the prince-bishopric of Konstanz .

origin

He came from the Basel noble family of Rotberg and was the son of Georg Sigmund von Rotberg (1685–1727), Prince-Bishop of Basel Landvogt in Schliengen , and his wife Maria Anna Münch von Münchenstein (1689–1760). The father had converted to the Catholic faith; the mother became a widow canon in the Andlau Abbey and was a sister of the prelate Beat Anton Münch von Münchenstein († 1759).

In 1740 Johann Christoph von Rotberg received a canonical at the knight's monastery in Odenheim, Bruchsal, in the Principality of Speyer , where his uncle Beat Anton Münch von Münchenstein was a canon and scholaster at the time .

In 1755 Rotberg also became cathedral capitular in Constance, he also advanced to custodian and in 1770 to provost (head) of the knight's monastery in Bruchsal. In this office he succeeded his uncle Beat Anton Münch von Münchenstein and had the rank of imperial provost .

The prelate died in Constance in 1772. In the cloister of the Konstanzer Munster a wooden coat of arms and epitaph plaque is preserved from him, in the Munster itself, his grave slab.
