Johann Conrad Ammann

Johann Conrad Ammann (born December 24, 1724 in Schaffhausen ; † October 11, 1811 there ) was a Swiss doctor, natural history and art collector .

In 1749 he received his doctorate in medicine in Leiden and then worked as a general practitioner in Schaffhausen, where he married Margaretha Gestefeld in 1762.

Johann Conrad Ammann became famous for his collection of fossils and conchylia from the Randen mountain range near Schaffhausen . He collected among other engravings .

There are numerous variations in the spelling of his family name (“Amman”, “Amann”) and first name (“Johannes Conradus” etc.) as well as confusion with the 1669 born in Schaffhausen and later also in Leiden doctor and deaf teacher Johann Konrad Ammann who died there in 1724 .

Until it was destroyed on April 1, 1944, a portrait by Johann Conrad Wenger from 1779 existed in the Museum zu Allerheiligen .
