Johann Conrad Knauth

Johann Conrad Knauth , Latinized Johannes Conradus Cnauthius or Johann Conrad Knauthius , modernized Johann Konrad Knauth (* 1662 in Cölln (near Meißen); † 1732 probably in Dresden ) was an Elector of Saxony historian and rector of the Kreuzschule in Dresden.

Life

He was the son of the later Evangelical-Lutheran pastor of the town of Dippoldiswalde in the Ore Mountains , Magister Johann Knauth, who came from Moritzburg , died in 1716 and for whom his son wrote a long obituary. The librarian Samuel Knauth in Wittenberg was his brother.

On August 24, 1678 he was enrolled at the University of Wittenberg .

Johann Conrad Knauth, who gained fame as a historiographer at the Dresden court and at the same time worked as the rector of the Dresden Kreuzschule , owned the so-called Gartenvorwerk Hopfgarten (in today's Johannstadt between Gerokstraße and Bönischplatz) and maintained a stately herb garden in the Saxon royal seat .
