Johann David Behaghel (born August 29, 1804 in Frankfurt am Main ; † July 12, 1850 there ) was a German doctor and member of parliament.

Life

Behaghel studied medicine and was awarded a Dr. med. doctorate and worked as a general practitioner in the Free City of Frankfurt . He took his civil and medical oath on October 23, 1833.

During the March Revolution in 1948, he was one of the city's leading liberals and, together with Maximilian Reinganum , was president of the “Montagkränzchen”, the city's liberals association. In addition, he was president of a “liberal-religious people's association”. On August 24, 1948, he was elected to the city's thirty-member constitutional committee, and in the subsequent election on October 25, 1848, he was elected to the Constituent Assembly of the Free City of Frankfurt .

His grave in Frankfurt's main cemetery ( Gewann D, grave number 473) is a listed building . The tomb made of red Main sandstone shows a rising sun in the gable, surrounded by the slogan of the French Revolution: freedom, equality, brotherhood . The inscription reads:

“The tireless fighter
for freedom and justice:
Dr. med. JD Behaghel
Perennial President of
the Monday wreath,
member of the constituent
assembly,
Born 29 Aug 1804,
Gest 12 July 1850
