Johann Eekhoff

Johann Eekhoff (born July 25, 1941 in Boekzetelerfehn , East Frisia , † March 3, 2013 ) was director of the Institute for Economic Policy at the University of Cologne from 2001 until his death .

Career

The study of economics at the University of Saarland , the University of Philadelphia and the University of Bochum closed Eekhoff with the diploma. In 1971 he completed his doctorate and in 1979 his habilitation . From 1979 to 1984 Eekhoff was a private lecturer at the Saarland University. From 1979 to 1983 he headed the planning group at the Prime Minister of Saarland. From 1983 to 1991 he headed the “Housing Policy” department in the Federal Ministry for Regional Planning, Building and Urban Development. From 1991 to 1994 Eekhoff was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics . In 1995 he took over the chair for economic policy, and together with Achim Wambach he was director of the Institute for Economic Policy at the University of Cologne . He was also director of the Institute for Housing Law and Housing Management at the University of Cologne and the Otto Wolff Institute for Economic Regulation.

Eekhoff was a representative of the regulatory approach of economic policy . He examined questions of social security, the labor market (creative urge model), health care ( concept of individual retirement provisions ) and the real estate industry.

Until the end of 2010 he was the spokesman for the Kronberger Kreis , the scientific advisory board of the Market Economy Foundation . From December 2009 to July 2011 Eekhoff was President of the Institute for SME Research in Bonn. He was an ambassador for the New Social Market Economy Initiative .
