Johann Erhard Ludwig von Geyso (* March 1624 in Borken ; † December 1707 in Bovenden ) was major general in Brandenburg and commander of the Berlin and Prussian bodyguards.

Life

His parents were the Landgrave Hessian bailiff Eckhard von Geyso (* October 22, 1597, † May 6, 1657) and his wife Dorothea Striebell. General Johann von Geyso was his uncle.

He first went to Hessen-Kasselsche and then switched to Swedish services. He was probably also in Danish service. During the Swedish campaign, the Elector Friedrich Wilhelm met him and wanted to advertise him for Brandenburg. On December 12, 1675, the elector wrote to him to end his service with the Swedes. On February 1, 1676, he was employed in Brandenburg. He became major general and commander of the Berlin and Prussian life guards. For this he received 130 thalers a month, a free table with twelve rations and a bounty for six servants. On the instructions of the elector, he was ranked behind Marcus von der Lütcke and, at court, after Herr von Knesebeck. In the Northern War against Sweden from 1676 to 1679, he took part in the siege of Szczecin . In October 1677 he landed on Rügen with 2100 riders, but withdrew again, only to come back in 1678. In 1679 he took his leave from Brandenburg and in 1680 received the village of Grebenau south of Kassel as a fief .

He died in Bovenden in December 1707.

Remarks

  1. Priesdorff calls him Geyse , but in 1680 Ludwig von Geyso was enfeoffed with the village of Grebenau, see: Konrad Wilhelm Ledderhose: Additions to the Description of the Church State of the Hessen-Casselischen Lande , p. 171
  2. According to Priesdorff, the father was the rent manager Peter Geyse , but he died in 1613 and was probably his grandfather
