Grebenau is a district of the municipality of Guxhagen in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse .
geography
location
Grebenau lies in the lower valley of the Fulda , which flows around the village to the north as part of a bend in the river , which is followed by another bend of Fulda downstream at nearby Büchenwerra ; both times the river changes its direction of flow by about 180 degrees each time. It is located between the Guxhagener Kernort (on the other side of the river loop) in the northwest, Albshausen in the east, Körle in the southeast (all beyond the Fulda), Wagenfurth (this side of the Fulda) in the south-southeast and Büchenwerra (beyond the Fulda) in the south-southwest. To the south, the perimeter of the Fulda loop leads over an area with weekend houses and past the grindstone head ( 305.4 m ) to the Quillerkopf (approx. 345 m ) at a 190.8 m high point, which is located a little south of the village .
District
The Grebenau district has a size of about 116 hectares , of which three hectares are forest.
history
Grebenau is first mentioned as "Grabonowa" in 786, when Emperor Charlemagne donated the village and church to the Hersfeld monastery . In 1057, the monk Bruno discovered that the document was forged. In 1057 the church and village of Grebenau are owned by the Hersfeld monastery. Grebenau is mentioned in a document this year as "Grabenowa". In the time of the Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813) Grebenau belonged to the canton of Melsungen .
The school in Grebenau goes back to the time before the Thirty Years War and was located directly at the churchyard. In 1864 the school building was bought by swap, which then stood until 1975 before it was demolished and a fire station was built on the same site .
A memorable event for the place was the construction of a bridge over the Fulda in 1907. In 1939 the village had 157 inhabitants, in 2009 there were 290. Since March 1st, 1971 Grebenau is part of the community of Guxhagen.
