Büchenwerra is a district of the municipality of Guxhagen in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse .

Geographical location

Büchenwerra is located in the lower valley of the Fulda , which flows around the village to the south as part of a bend in the river , which is followed upstream by another Fulda bend at nearby Grebenau ; both times the river changes its direction of flow by about 180 degrees each time. It is located about 2.5 km (as the crow flies ) south of the Guxhagener core town (this side of the Fulda), to which the orbital elevation of the river loop leads over. Other neighboring towns are Grebenau in the north-north-east, Wagenfurth in the east, Melgershausen in the south, Altenbrunslar in the south-west and Ellenberg in the west-north-west (all beyond the Fulda). In a south-easterly direction, the landscape rises beyond the Fulda loop past the grinding stone head ( 305.4  m ) to the Quillerkopf (approx.  345  m ).

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1057, at that time under the name "Buhchenenwird". During the time of the Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813), Büchenwerra belonged to the canton of Körle .

The Fulda has always been of particular importance to the place. Already in the early Middle Ages the villagers had fishing rights and with the beginning of shipping on the river they were involved in the towage services . The rushes weavers on site once used the material from the Fulda beach. The river also caused a variety of damage through floods and ice drift , with the largest ice drift being recorded in 1871.

From 1913 to 1931 Büchenwerra had its own village school. There has been a campsite southwest of Büchenwerra, directly on the Fulda, since the 1950s.

Territorial reform

On February 1, 1971, the municipality of Büchenwerra was incorporated into the municipality of Guxhagen as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

Kilian's Chapel

Inauguration of the Kilian's Chapel in Büchenwerra (2010)

At the location of intended holy Kilian as a traveling bishop, according to tradition, already 680 have built a chapel Kilianskapelle which belonged to the founding of Büchen Werra in the 11th century to the village. It fell into disrepair over the centuries and was never rebuilt. In the middle of the 19th century, the last stones of the chapel were used as bank reinforcement, but were washed away by the floods. The “Kilianskapelle Büchenwerra” association has campaigned for a small chapel to be built near the Fulda on the Fulda cycle path . The Kilian's Chapel in Büchenwerra was inaugurated on September 19, 2010.

Economy and Infrastructure

Facilities

Today there are various cultural offers in and around the place. There are several restaurants at the aforementioned campsite with a leisure pool and at the new village square, called Speckenplatz. From an economic point of view, a carpenter's shop, a butcher's shop, a relaxation center and a farm should be mentioned. After years of discussion about the need for a village community center and a suitable location, the residents of the village celebrated its completion and that of a fire station in September 2009 .

traffic

In Guxhagen to the north, the federal road 83 branches off the district road  150 leading to Büchenwerra , which is followed in the village by a road over the Fulda bridge in the direction of Ellenberg ; the road passes under the federal motorway 7 with the nearby Guxhagen junction . The village is located on the Fulda cycle path ( Hessischer Radfernweg R1 ) and the Fulda-Weser cycle path , which have been running between the two Fulda loops and thus between Büchenwerra and Grebenau since 1999 over a cycle and footpath bridge.
