Johann Faber (Syndicus)
Johann Faber (born December 27, 1581 in Stettin ; † August 2, 1622 in Lübeck ) was a German lawyer and syndic of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck .
Life
So far nothing is known about Johann Faber's academic career, except that he had a doctorate in law. Bruns found his date and place of birth in the mourning poems for Faber's death, written by Vice Rector Joachim Dreier, which were in the holdings of the City Library (Lübeck) . Before his appointment in Lübeck, Johann Faber was the syndic of the imperial city of Speyer , the seat of the imperial chamber court at that time , the highest court in the Holy Roman Empire . At the suggestion of Lübeck's mayor Heinrich Brokes , he was appointed to the further Syndicus of the city of Lübeck alongside Martinus Nordanus in September 1617 , after Johan Brambach had died the previous year and Lambert Steinwich had not accepted the call to Lübeck, contrary to the contract. In 1618 Lübeck tried to strengthen itself and additionally appointed the syndicus of the Hanseatic League, Johann Domann, in addition to his office as Hansesyndicus to the syndicus of the city of Lübeck, but he died in the same year on a trip to The Hague . Johann Faber therefore also had to "mostly" take over his workload from the Hanseatic League. For example, as Bruns reports from the Hanseatic Trial of October 12, 1621, he was “temporarily entrusted with the performance of all Hanseatic business that he carried out for a further three years”.
He died in 1622.
