Helmut Heeren (born December 28, 1942 in Bremen ; † June 16, 1999 ) was a German soccer player and founder of a Bremen typesetting company.

Career

Helmut Heeren, who grew up in the Findorff district, played up to and including the 1963/64 season with the purple-whites of Eintracht Bremen in the Bremen Amateur League. For the 1964/65 season, Preußen Münster was relegated to the Bundesliga and signed for the West Regional Football League . The other newcomers Klaus Ackermann , Bernd Gerstner , Werner Schütte and Ernst Tippelt joined coach Richard Schneider's team . The man from Bremen made his debut on November 15, 1964 in a 3-2 away win against STV Horst Emscher in the then second-rate regional league. He played in the World Cup system on half left and Manfred Pohlschmidt scored the three goals for Münster. Eight days later, on November 22nd, Heeren stood out as a two-time goalscorer in a 2-1 home win against Eintracht Gelsenkirchen. In his first regional league season he played 18 games and scored seven goals. In the second season, 1965/66, Erwin Kostedde , Dieter Reh and Rainer Schönwälder were three new forces for the offensive. Münster reached sixth place and Heeren had contributed four goals in 24 games. For the 1966/67 season he joined VfB Oldenburg in the North Regional Football League .

In the blue-whites of the Donnerschwee stadium, he was part of the regular line-up under coach Erich Hänel with 31 league games and also made a name for himself as a dangerous goalscorer with 14 goals alongside teammate Helmut Mrosla . In his second Oldenburg season, 1967/68, he could not repeat this quota under coach Emil Iszo , but with 23 games and eight goals he still drew the Bundesliga attention to himself. For the 1968/69 season he signed a contract in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund .

"Pico" Heeren made his debut on September 4, 1968 in the 1: 2 away defeat against Munich 1860 in the Bundesliga. Coach Oswald Pfau replaced him in the 76th minute for Reinhold Wosab . Dortmund fought extremely against relegation in this round and was only just able to prevent it with 16th place. In addition, the Pfau successors Helmut Schneider and Hermann Lindemann were the second and third trainers. When BVB moved up to fifth place under Lindemann in 1969/70, Heeren made eight appearances and scored two goals. The regular places in midfield were occupied by competitors Dieter Kurrat , Reinhold Wosab, Willi Neuberger and Jürgen Schütz . After two seasons and nine missions, Heeren moved on to TSR Olympia Wilhelmshaven in the second-class Regionalliga Nord.

With his former Oldenburg team-mate Helmut Mrosla as coach, it was enough for the Jadestädter to sixth place in the Regionalliga Nord in 1970/71. Heeren had scored four goals in 25 league appearances alongside other players such as Uwe Reese (goalkeeper), Lothar Lazar, Hans-Hermann Mindermann, Werner Marienfeld, Werner Schaar and Norbert Irtel. He played his last regional league game on February 25, 1973 in a 4-2 home win against VfB Oldenburg, where he scored a goal as a center forward. From 1964 to 1973 Helmut "Pico" Heeren played a total of 154 games and scored 40 goals in the then second-rate regional football league.

In 1973 he moved from Wilhelmshaven to his hometown club Eintracht Bremen.

After finishing his football career, Helmut Heeren fell ill with cancer, which is why he died in 1999.
