Bernd Gerstner (born July 31, 1944 ) is a former German soccer player . The offensive player played eight games (1 goal) at TSV 1860 Munich in the Bundesliga between 1968 and 1970 .

career

The Middle Rhine selection player celebrated his first sporting successes under coach Jakob Wimmer at his home club SV Schlebusch . With the Leverkusen amateur league team, the young striker became champion of the Mittelrhein Association league in 1964 , the highest German amateur class at the time. In addition, Gerstner was with the association selection of the Middle Rhine through a 4-0 win in the final against South Baden also winner of the 1964 national cup . In the World Cup system practiced at the time, he stormed as a center forward, Klaus Ackermann from Germania Hamm on the left wing and Karl Lambertin held the defense together as head of defense. Like his teammate Herbert Bönnen , who went to the German champions 1. FC Köln, the storm talent left the club that summer - Ferdinand Heidkamp had already joined Viktoria Köln in 1963 - and moved to the Bundesliga relegated Preußen Münster . In addition to Gerstner, Münster had signed the players Werner Schütte , Helmut Heeren , Ernst Tippelt and fellow striker from the association's selection, Klaus Ackermann. In the second-rate Regionalliga West , Gerstner made his debut on August 9, 1964 in a 2-0 home win for coach Richard Schneider's team against Wuppertaler SV. Together with Karl-Heinz Kiss , Manfred Pohlschmidt , Ernst Tippelt and Hermann Lulka , he formed the Prussians' attack line on the center forward. At the end of the round he finished 8th with Münster and had scored eight goals in 20 league appearances. Before the second year in Münster, in 1965/66, with Erwin Kostedde , Dieter Reh and Rainer Schönwälder, other new offensive forces joined the team, in the third year, 1966/67, with Werner Anzill and Günter Augustat, two more attackers. But it was never enough to reach the top positions to move into the Bundesliga promotion round. The former Oberliga and Bundesliga keeper Herbert Eiteljörge is quoted as follows: “The chairman, Dr. Berg had brought very good people to Münster and still made a serious mistake by signing the Yugoslav coach Mihajlović . If it had been possible to return to the Bundesliga, it would have been in the 1966/67 season. The SCP players were some of the best that played in the west. We had a bomb squad, but the wrong coach. Mihailovic didn't develop a game culture, but turned us into athletes. 5000-meter runs, 400-meter relay teams and 100-meter sprints - those were our training units. We only saw the cinder track in training. And there was no fun at all with us. ”With the deployment on the 34th round matchday, May 15, 1967, in a 3-0 home defeat against Hamborn 07, Gerstner's three-year period in Münster ended. With the attack formation Gerstner, Reh, Kostedde, Augustat and Ackermann no hit was achieved. The offensive player had scored a total of 15 goals in 47 regional league games and joined the newly promoted regional league Lüner SV for the 1967/68 season .

On the first round match day, August 13, 1967, Gerstner scored the winning goal for his new club in a 2-1 away win in front of 12,000 spectators against Rot-Weiss Essen on the right wing. Under coach Werner Nagerski and alongside teammates like Erhard Ahmann , Hans Bradatsch , Peter Demhartner , Manfred Rüsing and Dieter Zorc , Gerstner completed 33 regional league games for LSV and impressed not only thanks to his ten goals. The team from the Schwansbell arena took 8th place and Gerstner accepted the offer from Bundesliga club TSV 1860 Munich and moved to Munich for the 1968/69 season.

In addition to Gerstner, the “Löwen” also signed the other newcomers Jürgen Schütz , Klaus Fischer , Hans Linsenmaier , Helmut Roth and Franz Schäffner . Things did not go well for the Bundesliga champions of 1966, coach Albert Sing was replaced by Hans Pilz on November 1, 1968 and the man from Lünen was only used in three Bundesliga games (1 goal). In the second year in 1860 five more Bundesliga appearances were added. With the game on February 28, 1970, a 1: 3 away defeat at FC Schalke 04, Gerstner said goodbye to the Bundesliga. He had not been able to assert himself in this club, also due to a prolonged knee injury. In the summer of 1970, Bernd Gerstner moved to KSV Hessen Kassel in the Regionalliga Süd.

With the team from Auestadion he reached 3rd place in 1970/71 under coach Heinz Baas , two points behind runner-up Karlsruher SC. The KSV were in this good round with Gerstner (24-4), Herbert Maciossek (32-20), Reinhard Adler (34-19), Ernst Martin (26-6), Gerhard Grau (30-3) and Reiner Künkel ( 19-4) first class attackers available. But also the defense was well manned with goalkeeper Rolf Birkhölzer , Holger Brück , Heinrich Dittel and Alfred Resenberg . In the summer of 1972 Gerstner ended his high-class career as a footballer.
